4 Tips on How to Floss Better

4 Tips on How to Floss

We all know how important flossing is. Or at least we should! A regular flossing regimen vastly improves your dental hygiene and keeps your gums in optimal condition. In this article, we share some tips on how to improve your flossing.

  1. Use more than one piece of floss

Using the same piece of floss arguably defeats the very purpose of what you are trying to achieve with flossing; it spreads bacteria around your mouth. While we wouldn’t be so pedantic as to suggest using a different piece of floss for every tooth, you should lean towards using 2 or 3 per flossing session.

  2. Be gentle

Gums are sensitive, even in good condition; hence, flossing too hard can lead to complications or even damage your gums. Be gentle!

  3. Don’t stress about soreness or bleeding

If you have just started to floss or resumed after some time then you may experience some bleeding or soreness. This is totally normal and not a cause for concern if your teeth and gums are healthy. Continue to floss daily and these side effects should gradually subside. If they don’t, make sure to visit your dentist as soon as possible as there might be an issue.

  4. Rinse your mouth afterward flossing

To optimize your flossing routine, you should properly rinse your mouth out with water after flossing to remove any leftover bits of food or particles that may still be lingering.
