Porcelain Veneers treatmentHaving a pearly white smile is something that everyone wants. Unfortunately, most of us aren’t born with a perfect set of teeth. The good news, though, is that with the help of a dentist in West Hollywood, you can still get that smile you’ve always wanted.

Porcelain veneers are a common procedure used to improve the overall appearance of your teeth including color, size and shape. Made from thin layers of porcelain, they are typically used to fill in gaps or chips in your smile.

Here is process:

The initial visit with your dentist will be a consultation where you will discuss issues at hand and from which your dentist will decide if veneers are the right choice for you.

Once it’s decided that porcelain veneers is the treatment plan for you, the next step is to take impressions of the teeth that will be treated and sent to the laboratory for fabricating a template from which temporaries will be made. This template is known as a “waxup.” The second purpose of the waxup is to allow the doctor and the patient to see what the final shape/position of the teeth will look like before treatment is even started.

Actual treatment of the teeth involves removing a thin layer of enamel, called “preparation,” and creating the space needed for the porcelain veneers. Once preparation has been completed, a final impression is taken. This impression is sent to the laboratory and is used to make the porcelain veneers.

After the veneers have been made, the patient returns to the office to have them bonded in place. The temporaries are removed, the underlying teeth and gums are cleaned and disinfected, and the veneers are tried in. Small adjustments to the veneers are generally needed. Once the fit is verified, the veneers are bonded to the teeth.

With proper home care and oral hygiene, porcelain veneers can last a lifetime.
