Do you need to have a tooth repaired? Our dentist in Arcadia offers a variety of different restorative options to best fit your needs and priorities. In most situations, they fall into three different categories: fillings, crowns, or inlays and onlays. How do you know which one is right for you?
The best way to treat tooth decay is to prevent it. But when that can’t be done, you want to treat it early, before it spreads deeper into your tooth. With a small white filling, we can rebuild your damaged tooth structure in a small to moderate area.
Our dentist in Arcadia may recommend a crown if you’ve recently undergone a root canal or if the overall structure of your tooth can’t stand up to normal use. Patching it up with a filling would only cause it to break down and chip away, until it needed to be pulled. A crown could prevent that.
Inlays/Onlays (“Three Quarter Crowns”)
If you have a cavity or fracture that is too large to repair with a filling, but there’s enough healthy tooth that you don’t need a crown, our dentist may recommend an inlay or onlay. These “three-quarter” restorations are made in a lab (like crowns) but don’t cover your entire tooth. As such, they’re less invasive to your smile than a crown.
